what is psychology

Psychology
Psychology is concerned with the science of human behaviour. It notices patterns in the way people behave; and notes various clusters of behaviours. Psychologists are dedicated to helping their clients become contented and self-actualized. Client-centred psychologists believe that each client has the potential to become happy; and that the client holds the means of achieving this happiness within themselves.
Various tools may be used by the psychologist in facilitating their client`s journey towards self-actualization. These include psychotherapy, counselling, play therapy and family therapy.
Psychologists frequently work therapeuticaly with children. This therapy can be very productive. It frequently results in the child becoming better understood by significant people in his/her life. This thereby enables the child`s family, school, etc, to be better equipped to meet the child`s needs. Early babyhood and childhood experiences such as attachemnent may be explored and resolved. Insofar as possible, early trauma in the child`s life is healed. Children who are sad, hyperactive, suffer difficult behaviours, etc, are worked with by the psychologist in a respectful way. The child`s behaviour is always seen as meaningful. Such psychological intervention results in a more contented and confident child; and can prevent trauma in the child`s later life.
