Shiatsu as Pain Relief in Childbirth
In Oct 2008, Brian used Shiatsu as pain relief to help his wife Anne for the birth of their son Ronan. Brian applied pressure to various points from the first contraction at home to the last push in the maternity ward. These and various other techniques helped relieve pain and provided Anne with constant support.
Brian has since thought these techniques to other couples and has received great feedback. His class is given over 2 ½ hours and his aim is for couples to be confident in the use of these points and techniques with the emphasis on safety, comfort and support for the mother to be. The use of Shiatsu provides fathers/ birth partners with the opportunity to support their partner and take an active beneficial role in the birth experience.
Brian has practised tai Chi since 2001 and continues to study as an instructor of the John Ding International Academy of Tai Chi Chaun ( www.jdiatcc.com ).
